COMPONENTS of THE CURRICULUM
Relationship Building: Children learn about relationship skills and are given techniques which encourage and foster patience, a sense of belonging, and increased trust. They understand and have consideration for others, accept nurturing, can embrace healthy attachments, and bond with others.
Body Boundaries: Children, teachers, and parents learn about personal space, self-control, and related feelings. Children develop a physical sense of self in order to feel safe and learn how to control their own body space and be respectful of others.
Understanding Feelings: Children learn the ability to identify and discriminate among a variety of feelings. They gain knowledge about different levels of feelings and how each affects their body and behavior. They discover techniques and skills for expressing and managing their feelings in positive ways.
Problem Solving: Children learn to make choices about how they respond to the people and events they encounter. Children take responsibility for themselves and their actions. Self-control and self-esteem increase as children learn how to resolve conflicts on their own.
Managing Anger: Children find out how to stop their bodies, control their impulses, and be aware of when they are angry. They become skilled at slowing down, relaxing, and reacting positively.
Building Friendships: Children use all skills of the curriculum in learning how to initiate, develop and maintain friendships. They learn to respect and appreciate friends and develop the skills to work together to help each other learn and grow.
